The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has partnered with IBM for quantum computing education and research. Under the collaboration, IBM will provide access to its quantum tools and systems over IBM clouds to IIT Madras students, faculty and researchers to advance joint research in quantum computing.

To help prepare students, the special modules will also be developed to influence them through the next generation of computing across businesses and science.

The lab programmes for quantum computing will include individual lab sessions on the IBM systems and existing programmes on quantum information and computing will be augmented. IBM will also provide the tools, resources and systems to the students and faculty.

Director of IBM Research India Gargi Dasgupta informed that IBM is devoted to support educators such as IIT Madras by helping them to create the next generation of quantum innovators through programmes and initiatives.

Prof Anil Prabhakar from the Department of Electrical Engineering informed that the computationally intractable problems could be solved by quantum computing.
