IIT Roorkee- Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, in collaboration with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, have created the ‘SwasthGarbh’ mobile application for delivering antenatal care and medical support to pregnant women.

The institute said this is the first application that offers quick access to doctor’s advice and is clinically endorsed and credible. Both patients and doctors can take advantage of the mobile application free of cost as it is available on the Google Play Store.

The number of applications used in pregnancy is more compared to any other field of medicine. However, there is an insufficiency of involvement of clinicians. To cater to this requirement, Sahil Sharma & Deepak Sharma from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Roorkee, with Vatsla Dadhwal & Aparna Sharma from AIIMS, Delhi, developed SwasthGarbh. SwasthGarbh is an interactive platform to boost prenatal care, which is holistic in its perspective and patient-centered.

It helps pregnant women, particularly in rural areas, by providing timely antenatal care visits, documenting every clinical test, and enhancing medication adherence. A research paper emphasizing the advantages of the SwasthGarbh Application has been published in the prestigious peer-reviewed

Deepak Sharma from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Roorkee, said as the higher Neonatal Mortality Rate is an alarming concern, the newly-launched SwasthGarbh Mobile App will offer real-time medical support to all pregnant women and enhance maternal-fetal health. This app is a gift from IIT Roorkee to all the women in India/World and will enable us to move forward in the Prime Minister’s Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat vision.

Rama Chaudhry, Dean (Research), AIIMS New Delhi, said SwasthGarbh App would be useful for delivering potential solutions to common issues in pregnancy. Our goal is to make the SwasthGarbh App reachable in every household in our nation and thus save precious maternal-fetal lives.

KK Pant, IIT Roorkee director, said the utility of telemedicine in healthcare had been brought to the forefront by the COVID pandemic. The smartphone, with over one billion users worldwide, has an outstanding potential to change the area of medical sciences and improve the healthcare sector.
