The Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar's startup company has claimed to develop the first-ever 'Smart Bio-Filter' that can filter the air and make breathing fresh.

According to the Urban Air Laboratory, its living-plant-based air purifier called 'Ubreathe Life' amplifies the purification process of air in indoor spaces.

The specific plants which have been tested for air-purification include Snake Plant, Peace Lily, Spider plant etc. These all have shown positive results in purifying indoor-air, claimed the company.

The company also informed that the technology purifies the air through the natural leafy plant. The room-air, via the interaction with leaves, goes directly to the soil-root zone where maximum pollutants get purified, the company added.

The company also informed that they have used a novel technology in this product i.e. 'Urban Munnar Effect' in addition to the patent-pending 'Breathing Roots' to rapidly enhance the phytoremediation procedure of the plants. Under the Phytoremediation process, the plants conclusively remove pollutants from the air.

The purifier successfully upgrade the indoor air quality by removing particulate, biological and gaseous contaminants, at the same time increases the level of oxygen in the indoor space through specific plants, a heap of Pre-filter, HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter, Charcoal filter, and UV disinfection equipped in a specially designed wooden box, the company reported while notifying about the air purifier’s functioning mechanism.

The Company also informed that a centrifugal fan has been installed to create a suction pressure inside the purifier which releases the purified air, formed at the roots, through the vent in 360 degree direction.

The product 'Ubreathe Life' has been tested and can be a revolutionary product to maintain clean air indoors.

In the prevailing COVID situation, vaccination alone may not guarantee safety at schools, workplaces, and even closed fully air-conditioned houses, as per the latest research. This can be minimized through air purification, air filtration, and indoor ventilation.

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories in collaboration with the Laboratory of IIT Ropar tested the product and results show that the Air Quality Index dropped from 311 to 39 in 15 minutes in a room size of 150sq.ft. by using 'Ubreathe Life', claimed the Director of IIT, Ropar Prof Rajeev Ahuja.
