In a remarkable display of mathematical prowess, the talented Indian team, comprising six brilliant minds, has achieved an exceptional feat at the 64th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2023) in Chiba, Japan. Demonstrating their skills, this team of mathematical virtuosos secured six prestigious medals: two resplendent golds, two shimmering silvers, and two captivating bronzes.

Atul Shatavart Nadig and Arjun Gupta, both masterful individuals, soared to mathematical greatness, earning themselves the coveted gold medals with an impressive score of 37 points each. Not far behind, the remarkable duo of Ananda Bhaduri and Siddharth Choppara showcased their mathematical excellence, capturing the silver medals with an admirable score of 29 points each. The tenacious duo of Adhitya Mangudy and Archit Manas secured the bronze medals, amassing 22 and 20 points, respectively.

This remarkable achievement by the Indian team marks their fourth inclusion in the esteemed top 10 rankings since their debut in 1998. Previously, India showcased their mathematical brilliance by finishing 7th in 1998 and 2001 and 9th in 2002. Remarkably, this is also the fourth instance since 1998 that the Indian team has triumphed with three gold medals. 2001 and 2012 witnessed India's mathematical prowess shining bright with two gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Guiding and supporting this exceptional team were esteemed individuals who accompanied them on their journey. Prithwijit De from the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education in Mumbai, Sahil Mhaskar from the Chennai Mathematical Institute, Anant Mudgal from the University of California, USA, and Pranjal Srivastava from MIT, USA provided invaluable mentorship. Sahil, a veteran in the realm of IMO, had represented the country back in 2005, while Anant had previously showcased his brilliance in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Pranjal, with his remarkable contributions, participated in the IMOs of 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022.

It is worth noting that the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE)-TIFR plays a pivotal role as the focal point for training and selecting students for international olympiads. The rigorous National Olympiad Examination conducted by HBCSE serves as the gateway to determining the final team, ensuring that the most exceptional young mathematical minds represent India on the global stage.
