An Indian-American Ph.D. student has recently received a fellowship from the (AMTA)- American Membrane Technology Association and the US Bureau of Reclamation for launching cutting-edge and innovative research in the area of advanced treatment of alternative water supplies.

A Chemical Engineering Ph.D. student and Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Michigan, Harsh Patel was named among the four recipients of the USD 11,750 fellowship.

Harsh Patel's research looks at launching novel low-water content membranes capable of selectively releasing targeted ions to meet increasing water and energy demands.

Patel said I am pleased to have received this honour, knowing that successful work in this area will have immediate implications on global issues like water scarcity.

Patel did his Bachelor's in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2021 and is presently associated with Michigan's Kamcev Lab, which desires to create next-generation polymeric materials for water treatment, energy generation, and storage applications.

Harsh Patel is ready to attend the 2023 Membrane Technology Conference and Exposition to share his research via a podium presentation or poster in Knoxville in February.

The AMTA & Reclamation Fellowships jointly award four scholarships each year in order to support graduate students pursuing a full-time Master's degree or a Ph.D. student conducting research in the advancements required to seek innovation in membrane technologies.
