The IACC (Indo-American Cancer Consortium) will support in generating infrastructure, leadership and mentorship for global cancer research. The Indo-American Cancer Consortium is the first initiative of collaboration between multiple tertiary cancer centres from the United States and India.

The participating institutes include MAHE (Manipal Academy of Higher Education), Tata Memorial Centre, Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute in India and the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Centre and the Mayo Clinic Cancer Centre in the US.

Under the initiative, a global transdisciplinary team will be created including researchers, epidemiologists, oncologists, and surveillance experts.

The Consortium will also expand capacity, build infrastructure and strengthen the leadership and healthcare of cancer research, as notified by the Vice-Chancellor of MAHE Dr. M D Venkatesh.

The goal is to foster fundamental cooperation between the cancer research faculties, said Prof Mahadev Rao who is also a coordinator of Centre of Translational Research which is coordinating IACC. He added that more than 30 faculty members are included with active research programmes in basic science, public health science, and clinical and translational research related to cancer.

Dr. Naveen Salins, Coordinator from Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre added that the inspiration and excitement of collaborating across continents to further the global cancer training and research is counterbalanced by the issues of securing financial aid for the ambitious programmes of the consortium.
