A young student of Lady Shri Ram College, Devanshi Ranjan, has been awarded the esteemed 'Diana Award'. She has received the prestigious award for advancing the UN SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) and empowering young innovators.

Devanshi is a final-year student and has been working with Ladli Foundation Trust (NGO). This NGO works to help disadvantaged children, especially girl students, with their education amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Established in the memory of the Princess of Wales Diana, the award is considered the "highest accolade" a young person/ student can achieve for humanitarian efforts or social action.

The Award is awarded by the charity of the same name and is supported by both her sons -- the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex.

Ranjan informed that she found out on May 05 that she will be honoured with the Diana Award and she was extremely delighted. Except for her immediate family, she couldn't share the news with anyone till the commencement of the virtual ceremony schedule on June 28, added Ranjan.

She also informed that her work centered around the relief work for the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of reports and surveys showed a spike in the drop-outs in schools, especially the female students, as availing digital education was not affordable for everyone. She added that she worked with NGO Ladli Trust. Under the NGO's programme 'Pathanshala', they conducted workshops and educated students from villages and slums, added Ranjan.

Ranjan reported that she taught more than 1,000 children in the New Delhi slums during this period. She also distributed stationery, books, and other resource material in the rural and semi-urban areas of Delhi-NCR.

The CEO of the Diana Award Tessy Ojo congratulated all the recipients from the UK and across the globe. She added, "We know by receiving this honour they will inspire more young people to get involved in their communities and begin their own journey as active citizens.
