The Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of India has announced the results of the First MK Bhan Fellowship-Young Researcher Fellowship Programme.

A total of 358 applicants applied through ePromis portal of the DBT for this fellowship, out of which 50 researchers have been selected.

The MKB-YRFP Fellowship Programme was launched to honour the eminent scientist and former Secretary of the DBT Dr MK Bhan. The aim of the MK Bhan Fellowship-Young Researcher Fellowship Programme launched by the Department is to encourage young bright researchers to continue their research after Ph.D. in the country in any branch of Biotechnology/ Life Sciences/ allied areas.

The maximum age limit to apply for Fellowship is 35 years.

Under the scheme, an independent research grant is offered for the duration of 03 years to the young Post-Doctoral Fellows. This grant empowers them to rise as future leaders and follow advanced research focused on issues of national relevance.

Under this Fellowship, a monthly allowance of Rs 75,000 is also granted along with a generous Research/ Contingency grant to carry out the advanced research.



Dr Renu Swarup, the Secretary of the DBT, while speaking on the occasion, said, "It gives us immense pleasure to see the enthusiasm among the youngsters to carry out their research in India".

She added that this young research fellowship is a tribute to the former Secretary of the DBT Dr MK Bhan who constantly mentored and encouraged young future leaders. She also congratulated selected candidates.
