In Punjab, all the schools are set to reopen from today that is 7 January 2021. The detailed guidelines for the educational institutes have been released by the state school education department on Thursday. The guidelines have been released with the motive to ensure the safety of students amid the coronavirus pandemic in areas outside the containment zone.

On Wednesday, the Punjab School Education Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla has informed that the schools from class V to class XII will reopen from January 7 according to the covid-19 protocols. The timings for the school will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He also emphasized that online or distance learning will be continued as a preferred mode of teaching despite reopening the schools. Attendance of all the students in the school is not mandatory.

According to the statement released, the minister quoted that the schools are already conducting online classes. Both the parents and students prefer to attend it online rather than attending the schools physically. But still, there are parents willing to send their students to school. Students will only be permitted to attend the physical classes in school after their parents give written consent.

He also said that the parents while sending their students to school encourage them to wear masks and full sleeve clothes so that the interaction with the public surface can be minimized. Also, the parents are suggested to ask their children to not to exchange their masks with others.

He also added that if the strength of students attending the school increases and the social distancing norms becomes quite impossible to follow, then the school head or the management can decide to hold the class into shifts or call the students on alternate days.

Further, he added that the students and the teachers belonging to the containment zone are not allowed to attend the school or any other educational institution. Also, he added that according to the Union health ministry's recommendations, the pregnant or older people or employees having any medical conditions should take extra precautions.

As per the state government, it is important for the schools to mark the seat of students in the classroom so that the minimum distance of 6 feet can be maintained. Also in the staff room, hostel, office area, and other places of public interaction, the social distancing must be maintained.

In every school, the posters, stickers, and messages signing towards social distancing must be installed. Also, the schools must not entertain any sort of events where social distancing becomes quite impossible. However, the school assembly can be conducted under the guidance of the class teacher in respective classrooms or outdoor spaces.
