Amidst this celestial chorus, researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), have joined forces with astronomers from Japan and Europe in order to explore the mysterious realms of ultra-low frequency gravitational waves.
These intrepid explorers turned their gaze to the dance of colossal black holes lurking within colliding galaxies. From the depths of this cosmic choreography, immense ripples ripple through the fabric of space-time, manifesting as nano-hertz gravitational waves. With unwavering persistence, the relentless chorus of these waves creates a melodious hum that resonates throughout our universe.
At the heart of this cosmic symphony lies the Indian Pulsar Timing Array (InPTA), a collaboration between the European Pulsar Timing Array (EPTA) and the InPTA consortium. Together, they have revealed the unknowns of the humming universe. Among these esteemed researchers, the contributions of Professor P Arumugam and his senior Ph.D. student, Jaikhomba Singha, shine brightly.
Years of tireless dedication and collaborative efforts from scientists, including early career researchers and undergraduate students, have culminated in this remarkable discovery. The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, has played a significant role in providing a nurturing environment for this stellar collaboration. The National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) facility, PARAM Ganga, housed within the institute, stands as a testament to their commitment to scientific exploration.
Professor Arumugam expresses his gratitude for the continued support and contributions of IIT Roorkee, emphasizing the significance of this achievement. For early career researchers like Jaikhomba Singha, this marks a time of boundless possibilities. Together, an international tapestry of scientists unites their collective efforts poised to unlock the mysteries concealed within the cosmic hum.
Director K K Pant commends the InPTA team and the esteemed researchers of IIT Roorkee, celebrating their impactful findings and transformative research. He takes pride in the utilization of cutting-edge facilities like PARAM Ganga, recognizing the power of global collaborations in reaching profound scientific milestones and enriching our understanding of the vast universe.
