Robo Bionics, a start-up supported by the Indian Institutes of Technology of Patna and Bombay, has developed a line of affordable prosthetics having a unique feature, the sense of touch.



Grippy, the product of Robo Bionics, is a line of economical prosthetics that are easy to use. This product also addresses the hardships faced by patients with externally powered and body-powered prosthetics.



Other than its affordability and the sense of touch, the Grippy offers adaptive shape control and grip control which are also unparalleled features of the product. The basic prosthetic of GRIPPY will cost Rs. 60,000 whereas the advanced one will cost up to Rs. 75,000. A socket, which attaches Grippy and the person's hand, approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India costs around Rs. 25,000 to 50,000 as per the complexity.



Robo Bionics is a start-up of the alumni of the University of Mumbai and IIT Patna and was chosen among the 15 start-ups under the scheme 'StartupToScaleup' assisted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. This scheme could be beneficial for edtech and healthcare start-ups who wish to take innovation to the International market.



Started at Patna, the start-up is supported by SINE (Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship), IIT Bombay, and BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council), Govt. of India.
