SWAMITVA stands for Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas.Svamitva Scheme, announced by the PM Narendra Modi, is a scheme to provide an integrated property validation solution for people residing in rural areas. The scheme, also known as 'Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas, is a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, State Revenue Departments, State Panchayati Raj Departments and Survey of India. The objective of the scheme is to bring financial stability so the land, in need, can be used as a financial asset. It will also achieve the objective of land records for rural planning and to determine the property tax.

Under the scheme, the latest surveying technology such as drones will be used for measuring the inhabited land in villages and rural areas. Also, the drones will draw the digital map of every property falling in the geographical limit of each Indian village. Apart from this,Property Cards will be prepared and given to the respective owners. The scheme will create records of land ownership in villages and these records will further facilitate tax collection. The money generated from these local taxes will be used to build rural infrastructure and facilities. Moreover,PM Swamitva Yojana scheme will end confusion and fights over property.

The need for this Swamitva Yojana Scheme was felt since several villagers in the rural areas don’t have papers proving ownership of their land. The scheme will cover around 6.62 lakh villages in the country. For the pilot-phase, the outlay of the project is Rs.79.65 crore which will extend to 6 states: Haryana, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
