On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin regurgitated the state government's opposition to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) & National Education Policy (NEP 2020). While announcing various projects, he said that the Tamil Nadu government would pay Rs 1,000 per month to female students as higher education support.

While addressing a meeting of vice-chancellors of state-run universities, M K Stalin announced that in order to promote higher education and research, our government would allocate Rs 50 crore per annum. He added that CM Research Fellowship will be launched soon to permit undergraduate and postgraduate graduates to undertake research.

Repeating why the Tamil Nadu government is contending NEET, he said education should decide the qualifications. Saying that one should be eligible to pursue education is the biggest injustice. The Chief Minister said this issue is related to the state government's rights. It is the right of government elected by the people and is connected to the education rights of state universities. Therefore, the functioning of state-run universities and VCs should reflect the state government's policy decisions.

Opposing the NEP, Stalin recalled the government constituting a committee directed by a retired Judge of the Madras High Court, D Murugesan, to develop the State Education Policy (SEP). The Chief Minister commented that this initiative of State Education Policy (SEP) is to build a society inspired by science.

Anbil Mahesh, Tamil Nadu education minister met Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday and invited him to the launching ceremony of the Puthumai Penn Thittam (innovative project for girls). On September 5, Delhi CM will inaugurate 26 schools of excellence and 15 model schools.

The chief minister further said that the 164 positions in the top 1,000 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2022 were acquired by the colleges in Tamil Nadu.

There are 22 state-run universities, of which only two were established before India’s independence. One is Madras University which- was set up in 1857, and Annamalai University in the 1920s. There was only one university that was set up between 1947 to 1967. The other 19 universities were founded after 1967 by the Dravidian party.

He further said that Rs 3,000 crore is allocated to these universities every year. He stated that several engineering, medical, and architecture colleges in Tamil Nadu are among the top universities in the country. Education for all is one of the mottos of the DMK party. CM Stalin also recollected that his government enacted a Bill in the Assembly to allow the state government to appoint Vice-Chancellors.
