UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) has released the online data for the 5th Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE 5).
GRALE observes the extent to which the Member States of UNESCO implement their international commitments regarding ALE (Adult Learning and Education). These reports consists of survey data, policy analysis and case studies to furnish practitioners and policy-makers with precise recommendations and examples of effective practice. It also shows the strong evidence on how ALE can benefit these countries in addressing current and future issues, including those highlighted by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning already released this data in June 2022 during the 7th International Conference on Adult Education in Marrakech, Kingdom of Morocco. A total of 05 GRALE reports have been released since 2009.
The GRALE 5 Report provides the latest assessment of the status of Adult Learning and Education in UNESCO Member States and also a sectional chapter on Citizenship Education, including Global CE, its significance for sustainable development, and recommendations to develop ALE and to promote active and worldwide citizenship. GRALE 5 also reveals the progress in ALE opportunities across the world, particularly in women participation, but still, there are several people continue to face the deprivation of access to learning. This includes the vulnerable and disadvantaged sections who could benefit most from adult education, such as rural populations, Indigenous learners, older citizens, refugees and migrants, prisoners, and people with disabilities.
Supporting the recommendations and findings in GRALE 5 is the self-reported qualitative and quantitative survey data collected from UNESCO Member States. The survey instrument has been developed over 05 cycles and is administered by UIL in consultation with the UIS (UNESCO Institute for Statistics), with input from external partners and experts in the field and it was conducted using the software of open-source online statistical survey i.e. LimeSurvey.
