On Wednesday, Union Cabinet approved an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) signed between the Ministries of Education in India and UAE on cooperation in the education sector. The purpose of the MoU is to strengthen the educational collaboration between India and UAE and broaden the scope of engagements.

An official statement said that an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed in 2015 with UAE for the education sector, which expired in 2018. In 2019, at a meeting between Education Ministers of the two countries- the UAE side suggested signing a new MoU. The new MoU comprises modifications brought by the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020) in India's education ecosystem.

The MoU aims to promote the exchange of information education, capacity development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) teaching staff, and help of academic collaboration between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in India and UAE for providing joint degree, twinning, and dual degree programmes and any such additional areas agreed upon.

The statement said that this MoU would recharge educational cooperation and expand academic mobility between India and UAE, besides facilitating the exchange of information in order to encourage mutual recognition of these qualifications. It also covers collaboration in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as UAE is a significant work destination for Indians. It added that the agreement will be valid for five years from the date of signing and will be automatically renewable with the approval of both parties. Once signed, this MoU shall substitute the earlier MoU signed with UAE in 2015, which will cease to have an effect.
